1950s – The beginnings

Formerly known as the University College for Aspiring Missionary Doctors, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was founded in 1950 by Francesco Canova, previously a missionary doctor in Jordan. Monsignor Girolamo Bortignon, the Bishop of Padua, immediately lent his support to Canova and the project.

Text Messages to help improve the Health Care System in Tanzania

This 13 and 14 April in London Doctors with Africa CUAMM presented a set of good practices, the outcome of a pilot project we recently wound up in Tanzania. CUAMM was the only Italian NGO selected by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the international NGO World Vision to partner on the project, which used technologies to test a participatory approach in the monitoring of health care service quality.

Mary Becoming mother in South Sudan

Mary is a 29-year-old South-Sudanese woman, who had to travel several miles in order to deliver, with many discomforts to bear. The history has been taken by Peninah Nalubega, who, as she wrote, "is an Ugandan by nationality and a midwife by profession, working in Lui Hospital as an employee of CUAMM".
